VET in Schools, VCAL, Youth Pathways

William Angliss Institute delivers a wide range of youth programs that offer flexible learning and career pathways to year 10-12 students and mature-aged students who have not completed their VCE.

William Angliss Institute has been proactive in creating a program that is flexible for students, employers and schools. Entering the hospitality and tourism industry comes with a greater element of choice. Students can begin a course while they are still at school through a VET in Schools subject or, through a Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

The Youth Pathways program also offers short courses at the Melbourne and Cranbourne campuses. William Angliss Institute's strong partnerships with schools, the city of Port Phillip and community groups like St Kilda Youth Services, shows commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for students.

VCAL - Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning

VCAL is an alternative learning stream for Year 11 and 12 students. It provides a pathway for students who do not want to complete a VCE, or are interested in a particular career but need a practical approach to training and development.

On graduation students receive the VCAL at a Foundation, Intermediate or Senior level depending on competencies learned, as well as accredited units of competency from Certificates II and III in Hospitality, Tourism or Business. All VCAL levels are flexible and programs are tailored according to previous qualification levels to suit a participants interests and needs.

Choose from:

  • Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Foundation) 21352VIC
  • Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Intermediate) 21353VIC
  • Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Senior) 21354VIC

For more information contact the VCAL Coordinator on (03) 9606 2111 or through Angliss Youth Learning: janes@angliss.vic.edu.au.

School Based Apprenticeships - Cookery or Patisserie.

Australian School Based Apprenticeships (ASBAs) give school students who are employed as trainees or apprentices a head-start to their trade career.

ASBAs are essentially a partnership between employers, schools, TAFEs and young people. They're ideal if you want to enhance the vocational component of your VCE or VCAL studies.

In an ASBA, you could train alongside VET in Schools students as well as other trainees and apprentices, and remain at school to broaden your education.

These certificate programs are part of a full apprenticeship. They are very much hands-on learning, training students in all aspects of their trade. Graduates could expect to go on to full apprenticeships in cookery orpatisserie. Your qualification could also help you gain casual or part-time work.

  • Certificate III in Hospitality  (Commercial Cookery)
