Baking

No matter where you're headed in the baking business, these courses will give you the qualifications you'll need to get there. Apprentices undertake baking training in one of three streams: cake and pastry, bread or combined (cake, pastry and bread).

Pastry cooks produce a mouth watering range of bakery products such as cakes, pies, pasties, buns, biscuits, cookies and confectionery. Some pastrycooks specialise in chocolate making or cake decorating.

Areas such as the making and baking of pastry, preparation of fillings, cake and sponge making and baking, communications, and occupational health and safety are covered in the course.

Bakers can bake in small bakery businesses, like hot-bread shops, in-store bakeries or in large plant bakeries. The course covers skills such as mixing, moulding, making and baking bread, communication, occupational health and safety. Specialist areas, such as making artisan breads, are also included.

The combined course multi-skills you, making you incredibly valuable to a huge range of businesses, from small family-run shops to large supermarket chains. You could even open your own business.
