Counsellors are available to discuss any kind of personal problem that may be affecting your study or well being in general. Things do not happen in isolation and often a problem at home may impact on work or study or vice versa.
We can help you to better understand what's going on and provide you with strategies to deal with problems more effectively. We try to help you explore your strengths and build on them. We also assist you to get better at things you're not comfortable with. We do not claim to have all the answers but can help guide you in the right direction and support you along the way.
Studying can be challenging whether you have just left school, are an international student, an apprentice or are coming back to study as a mature age student. Our counsellors can provide you with tips on:
- time management
- creating a study schedule
- exam preparation
- preparing an oral presentation
- overcoming anxiety
- improving concentration and memory.
You can also contact Learning Support for more specific assistance.
It can be hard to work out what you want to do after leaving school. You may have decided on a course but are not sure what jobs it may lead you to. You may also want to change careers but are not sure what you are interested in. Our counsellors can help you work out what your interests and skills are and how these may combine in a career that is right for you. They can also help with:
- preparing job applications
- preparing for interviews
- managing anxiety at an interview
- asking for feedback after an interview
- maintaining a positive attitude.
For assistance in finding work, you can also contact Careers and Employment for more specific assistance.
