Appointed Ministerial Representatives 

 

Mr John Cross (Vice-President) - Project Management Consultant (appointed September, 2002)

John Cross has a background in property management and development, commercial management and hospitality financial management. John has held a number of senior management positions with several major hotel chains within Australia and overseas, as well as with major development organisations. Currently, John is working as a consultant and cafe owner.

Mr Peter Filshie - Executive Director, Sodexho (appointed April, 2005)

Peter Filshie is currently responsible for Sodexho's southern region and New Zealand operations as the company's Executive Director, as well as purchasing for the Asia Pacific region as Vice-President. Sodexho is a global catering and management company that operates in 76 countries. Peter has held senior management positions with John Lewis Food Services, Composite Buyers, Five Star Food Services and Denny's Restaurants. In addition, Peter was one of the Institute's first graduates from the Diploma of Hotel and Catering Operations program.

 

Mr Edward Micallef - Retired Politician (appointed July 2002)

Edward Micallef began his working life as a turbine fitter in the power industry,

later moving on to become occupational health and safety officer for the Australian Miscellaneous Workers Union. Eddie then served in the Victorian Parliament from March 1983 to September 1999, during which time he held numerous positions covering health, industrial relations, WorkCover and multicultural affairs.

 

Edward has a history of strong community involvement, being former Chairperson of the Springvale Community Health Service, where he became involved with drug-related issues and the links between culturally diverse communities and the use of illicit drugs. Since retiring from Parliament, Edward has remained involved in local government community initiatives and is currently an executive member of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria. 

Ms Frances O'Brien - Senior Counsel for the State of Victoria (appointed December 2005)

Frances O'Brien was appointed as a Senior Counsel for the State of Victoria in

December 2002. Frances has been a barrister for 17 years and is a member of the Victorian Bar. She is a specialist in industrial relations, employment and discrimination, and occupational health and safety law. Frances has represented and advised many of Australia's top 100 companies and has also acted on behalf of individual employees.

 

Ms Joanne Rumble - Project Manager, Department for Victorian Communities (appointed June, 2004)

Joanne Rumble's experiences in the Victorian public service have included senior budgeting and financial roles and more recently, in grant administration. She has also undertaken various accountancy roles in Australia and the UK working across both the public and private sectors. Joanne holds Masters Degrees in both public and business administration, together with a Graduate Diploma of Communication (Public Relations) and a Bachelor of Business (Accounting). She is an active member of CPA Australia, where she holds positions on the Victorian Divisional Council and Women's Networking Committee, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Craig Geddes - General Manager Consulting, Acumen Alliance (appointed July 2, 2007)

Craig Geddes is currently General Manager Consulting with Acumen Alliance, a member of the Oakton Group. He has 18 years experience in the assurance and risk management industry holding positions with Price Waterhouse, the Arlec Group of Companies and AXA. Craig is a Certified Internal Auditor and a qualified Chartered Accountant. He has extensive experience consulting to the Victorian Government, with clients including the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Primary Industries, the Department of Justice as well as Victoria University and the University of Melbourne. Craig is also an independent member of the Victorian Institute of Teaching.

Ms Margaret Gosch (President) - Consultant
(appointed December 1987)

Margaret Gosch was a graduate in the second year of the Institute's Diploma of

Catering and Hotel Operations program. Margaret has been on the Institute Board for a total of 19 years, including her time as President for the past five years. She has more than 26 years experience in the institutional food service working in operational management, as well as her more recent experience in consultancy. Margaret has worked with many of the larger food service providers for the hospital and aged care sector.

Mr Gregory Lee - Director, Octopus Staffing and Recruitment
(reappointed August 2006)

Greg Lee is Managing Director of Octopus Staffing and Recruitment, which was

established in January 1994 under the name of United Recruitment. Octopus Staffing and Recruitment is now one of Australia's largest privately owned recruitment and labour hire companies, with more than 1,900 staff and four separate industry divisions. Greg is also a Director of the Carlton Football Club.

Nicholas Hunt - Chief Executive Officer, William Angliss Institute
(from August 2007)

Prior to joining the Institute, Nicholas was the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Alliance Victoria, a position he had held since 2000, and before that, he was the Executive Director of Tourism Training Victoria. Nicholas' background includes roles in research, project management, hospitality and documentary journalism. He currently Chairs the Victorian Tourism Awards Industry Committee.
