MyWireless - student wireless is here!
What is myWireless?
You can log on to all your WAI services using your own laptop. This includes accessing fileshares, using WAI applications, printing your assignments in the LRC and surfing the net.
The wireless data network myWireless will allow your laptop to connect to the Institute's network when you are on the Latrobe campus. The Institute's wireless network is available to all students of the Institute.
What is the myWireless URL?
Type into your browser https://mywireless/students and enter in your username and password. Setup information is detailed below.
What is the Internet connection speed? The Institute maintains a 10 Mbps link. However, as with any Internet connection, your speed may fluctuate greatly due to heavy traffic on the Internet at different times of day.
If there are too many users, will I be blocked from using the wireless network? There is currently capacity for up to 250 users at the same time. A pool of resources has been set aside large enough to accommodate users in the Hot Spot locations around the Melbourne campus. You will not be "blocked" from accessing the network because of too many users.
Can I download large files? The bandwidth available for the wireless Internet connection is shared with all others across the whole Melbourne campus. To show consideration for others' needs, we ask that you not download excessively large files, use peer-to-peer file sharing programs, or access streaming audio/video.
Where Can I Access It From?
Most areas at the Institute's Latrobe Campus will have myWireless access. It may vary depending on your geographical location or the amount of use. Places with guaranteed access will be signposted around the institute. You are encouraged to access myWireless while at the Learning Resource Centre or the Recreation Lounge.
Cost
There is no cost to use myWireless, however, it must be used for educational purposes as per the conditions of use laid out below.
Conditions of Use
By logging into the myWireless network you are indicating that you accept the conditions of using William Angliss Institute's network. These are laid out in Section 16 of the Student Guidelines in your student diary. You should take particular note of the sections on Computer Access, the Computer Network Security Policy, the Internal Internet Access guidelines and the Formal Resolution Process in case of a breech.
You must not use the Institute's wireless network if you do not agree to these conditions.
Protecting your Notebook
A reminder that use of the myWireless network is at your own risk. myWireless is an open, unsecured network and therefore can pose a risk to your notebook. While William Angliss Institute takes all care to maintain its network, it is your responsibility to ensure that your notebook is protected. This would include maintaining current anti-virus software, running a firewall and ensuring that your operating system is patched and up to date. Further, it is always a good idea to make backups of your work. The Institute takes no responsibility for issues with your notebook or lost work.

-

The drivers and software to operate the card must be compatible with your system. See the card's packaging and documentation for compatibility and minimum requirements. In more recent laptops, the wireless cards are built into the laptop.
